Samir Ousman Alsheikh is a former Syrian Brigadier General who allegedly served as director of Adra prison from around 2005 to 2008, and governor of Deir Ez-Zour from 2011 to 2013. Arrested in Los Angeles in July 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) charged him with immigration fraud for concealing his role in torture, killings, and political persecution, as well as his involvement in the Syrian government and the Ba’ath party. The DOJ later added charges for three counts of torture of detainees at Adra prison and one count of conspiracy to commit torture at Adra prison. Alsheikh has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.
