Mary Roe is a 17-year-old Iraqi national and member of the Yazidi faith. ISIL fighters abducted her on August 3, 2014. For the next nine months, she was enslaved and trafficked through ISIL detention centers, subjected to physical and sexual violence.  ISIL initially “gifted” Mary Roe as a sex slave to Haji Hamad, a senior ISIL emir. Hamad kept her as a slave and repeatedly raped her for several months. Hamad eventually took Mary Roe to Umm Sayyaf’s husband and exchanged her for another Yazidi slave, Inas Alias Hussein.

Mary Roe II and Mary Roe III are cousins and Iraqi nationals who are members of the Yazidi faith. They were 15 and 13 years old, respectively, when ISIL fighters abducted them in August 2014. They were enslaved and transferred between a series of ISIL detention centers. Around November 2014, Mary Roe II and Mary Roe III were transferred to Umm Sayyaf and her husband’s custody, together with Mary Roe II’s younger sister and Mary Roe III’s older sister.

Inas Alias Hussein was held by Umm Sayyaf and her husband at various residences between Fall 2014 and May 2015. Nasima Avdo Saleh does not know Inas Alias Hussein’s fate. She and her family only received information that, as of the summer of 2018, Inas Alias Hussein was alive and continuing to be held captive by ISIL fighters.
