On October 21, CJA International Attorney Almudena Bernabeu will be speaking at the 18th United Nations Association Film Festival. Bernabeu will be joining a panel on “The Justice of Reconciliation” at 5:45pm at Stanford University (free admission!). The panel follows a 4:30 screening of the film Burden of Peace, which documents the story of Guatemalan Attorney General Claudia Paz y Paz and her efforts to hold former Guatemalan president Rios Montt accountable for the genocide of 1,771 Mayan-Ixiles. CJA played a key role in the prosecution of Rios Montt and the film captures a moment where CJA awards Paz y Paz with the Champion of Justice Award at our Annual Dinner.
