Madeleine Cavanagh

Madeleine Cavanagh (she,her,hers), Legal Fellow, is a graduate of Harvard Law School, where she focused on international human rights and international humanitarian law. In the Harvard International Human Rights Clinic, she helped draft two reports which were published by Human Rights Watch, the first on appropriate fora for the negotiation of a treaty on autonomous weapons systems, and the second on the Political Declaration on the Use of Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas. While in law school, Madeleine also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Human Rights Journal, and as the Vice President of Harvard Law School’s student-led human rights organization, HLS Advocates for Human Rights.

Prior to joining CJA, Madeleine conducted interviews in Armenia with released prisoners-of-war and displaced persons following the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War, and interned at CJA, the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s Docket Initiative, and International IDEA. Madeleine holds a B.A. in Political Science from Vassar College.
