The Road to Spain: The Jesuit Massacre and the Struggle Against Impunity in El Salvador

The 1989 assassinations of Ignacio Martin-Baro, his Jesuit colleagues at the University
of Central America, and their housekeeper and her daughter in El Salvador were shots heard round the world. This article traces the frustrated efforts to obtain justice for the crimes in El Salvador, CJA’s successful accountability efforts in U.S. courts, and the use of the Spanish National Court as an appropriate forum for the criminal accountability of the intellectual authors of the crime.
