Full Job Description
We generally accept second and third-year law student interns each semester and during the summer and winter terms to work at our offices in San Francisco. Exceptional first-year law students may be considered for the summer term. These positions are unpaid.
We are now reviewing applications for fall 2020. The deadline for submissions for spring and summer 2021 is December 15, 2020. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
CJA seeks candidates with excellent written and oral communication skills and a keen interest in CJA’s mission to apply for fellowships.
A fellowship at CJA gives an entry-level lawyer the opportunity to work for 1-2 years as a junior staff attorney at CJA’s offices in San Francisco. Ideal candidates are third-year law students, judicial clerks, U.S. LLM students, or recent law graduates with a demonstrated interest in international human rights law or international criminal law.
As a small non-profit organization, CJA relies on the help of volunteers and pro bono professionals who are dedicated to bringing human rights abusers to justice. We offer volunteer opportunities for students or professionals.
CJA partners with outside law firms and investigation firms who provide significant pro bono resources to investigate and litigate large and complex cases on behalf of our clients, to help bring our cases to trial and hold human rights abusers accountable. On occasion, we also work with lawyers, non-legal professionals, and other volunteers on a pro bono basis on more limited and discrete projects. This includes appellate work, FOIA, foreign language translation, country monitoring, research, fundraising, marketing, IT/tech, web and graphic design, special event support, and administrative assistance.
If you are interested in providing pro bono support to CJA, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “Volunteer at CJA.”
Note: CJA is an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse, multicultural work environment. People of color, women, people with disabilities, and people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities are encouraged to apply.
