On October 6, Almudena Bernabeu and CJA received the Letelier-Moffitt Human Rights Award for our successful prosecution of several of the worst Latin American perpetrators of crimes against humanity.

The Centre for Justice and Accountability (CJA) called for Sri Lanka’s war-affected communities to be involved in meaningful consultations “ at every level” to shape an accountability mechanism to prosecute for war crimes in Sr Lanka, and warned against attempts to “water down” a resolution at the UN Human Rights Council.

On September 16, the Fourth Circuit will hear oral argument in Warfaa v. Ali, a case brought by the Center for Justice and Accountability under the Alien Tort Statute (ATS) and Torture Victim Protection Act (TVPA) alleging war crimes and other violations of fundamental human rights.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit will hear oral arguments on Wednesday over whether to uphold dismissal of human rights abuse claims brought under the Alien Tort Statute against Colonel Yusuf Abdi Ali, who controlled a region in northern Somalia during the regime of military dictator Mohamed Siad Barré in the 1980s.
