Blog: Unearthing Evidence of War Crimes in Somaliland
With CJA’s sponsorship, the Peruvian Forensic Anthropology Team and the government of the self-declared Republic of Somaliland opened an international forensic field school in Hargeisa, Somaliland in 2012 that is carrying out a fact-finding and forensic investigation of human
rights violations in Somaliland. This investigation will allow access to
truth and justice for the families of victims who suffered under
Mohammed Siad Barre’s 21-year rule. The field school is now accepting applications for 2014. Click here to apply.
In 2012, participants in this field school shared their experiences with the rest of the world in the blog posts below. Their posts inform and reflect on the search for the missing and disappeared, giving readers a window into the process of fact-finding and forensic investigation of human rights violations in Somaliland.
