Elise Baker, Legal Fellow, is a graduate of UC Berkeley School of Law, where she focused on international and human rights law. At Berkeley, Elise contributed to a year-long study of national war crimes prosecutions, led by Berkeley’s Human Rights Center, at the request of the International Criminal Court. As a student in the International Human Rights Law Clinic, Elise conducted legal research and participated in a fact-finding trip to seek accountability for human rights violations resulting from large-scale agricultural developments in Liberia. During law school, Elise also interned at CJA and the UN’s International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) on Syria, and she led a study on secondary trauma in open source human rights investigations. Prior to law school, Elise led Physicians for Human Rights’ Syria Mapping Project, documenting attacks on medical facilities and personnel in Syria and obstruction to medical and humanitarian aid.
Elise received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Mathematics from Williams College. Her Political Science honors thesis was on post-genocide restoration and peace-building in Rwanda and Burundi, and her Mathematics senior colloquium was on calculations of power in multicameral voting systems.
